See also Skin Resurfacing. Since time immemorial, men and women have been looking for young and smooth skin without wrinkles. There are various reasons for the existence of wrinkles. The flexing of muscles, individual life style factors and environmental influences can be the reason for the development of smaller and deeper wrinkles. Weakness of the collagen fibres which determine the elasticity and tension of the skin is the origin of wrinkles. The collagen fibres inside the skin (cutis) and under the skin (subcutis) lose their elasticity and get thinner. The lack of moisture leads to wrinkles especially in the peri-oral and peri-orbital areas. The decrease in collagen elasticity and the resulting wrinkles are irreversible. Skin care products can influence the sebum and moisture content of the epidermis but cannot regenerate its elasticity.
Long-term wrinkle reduction requires experience and competence combined with the latest technical pulsed-light equipment. It is of the utmost importance to be well trained in choosing the optimal energy fluence, pulse time, wavelength and treatment technique (with or without pressure, with or without skin cooling). It is not enough simply to use the best machine. The age and thickness of the skin are just as important as possible skin damage due to UV-light or allergies. Also the depth of the wrinkles, the specific facial area, i.e. the area of wrinkles, and of course the individual expectations of the patient/client are further to be considered.
