In the past, tattoos have been removed by means of dermabrasion. This could induce painful wounds combined with a long healing period. Sometimes ugly scars remained. Nowadays, tattoos can be removed completely with specific lasers without any damage to the skin. The principle is the selective photothermolysis of each wavelength of different lasers. Nevertheless, many sessions might be necessary, especially in the case of red and yellow tattoos.
