Acne

Excessive sebum production and abnormal keratinisation block the sebaceous glands and lead to comedones and acne. Inflamed pimples result from the existence of the bacteria (propionibacteria acnes and staphylococcus epidermidis) living on the sebum.

Comedones

Inflamed pimples result from the existence of the bacteria (propionibacteria acnes and staphylococcus epidermidis) living on the sebum. The sebum is broken down into waste substances and fatty acids which inflame the sebaceous glands, resulting in pimples formed by bacteria. There are two kinds of comedones, open comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (whiteheads) as well as acne papules and pustules (inflamed comedones). Furthermore, superficial acne is distinguished from deep acne with inflamed lumps deep under the skin. Deep acne often results in scars, while superficial acne only leads to scars when treated in the wrong way. Puberty is the period when acne most frequently occurs. Normally, it heals without any treatment, but there are also acne patients at the age of 25 to 30. The areas mostly concerned are face, chest, back and shoulders, but sometimes only one of these areas is affected. The main reasons for acne are changes in hormone production during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, inflammation of comedones caused by bacteria, unsuitable cosmetic products which are too rich for the skin and cause comedones, medicaments or chemicals (e.g. chlorine). It is not yet agreed whether nutrition can be a cause of acne. The HARMONY Moderate Inflammatory handpiece is a simple upgrade for your Harmony/Aria device enabling you to treat first stage acne vulgaris and moderate acne. For about 10% of the population, acne is aesthetically disturbing. The acne handpiece uses a patented light-energy-optimization technology (LEO TM). This new technology uses the blue wavelength spectrum (420 – 950 nm) together with the optimized and adjustable parameters to treat the tissue and the target, i.e. the propionibacteria acnes, safely and effectively. The high-intensity light starts a chemical reaction of the porphyrines which are produced by the propionibacteria acnes. This produces singlet oxygen which attacks and deactivates the propionibacteria acnes. After a few short treatments, the result is the complete removal of acne resulting in a high level of acceptance by patients. Use this plug & play application to extend the scope of your HARMONY device and promote your practice.
